Get perfectly golden, crispy grilled cheese with a gooey melted center using your air fryer. Quick, easy, and less mess than a skillet!

Ingredients

    • 2 slices of your favorite bread (sourdough, white, or whole wheat work well)

    • 1-2 slices of cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, provolone, or a mix)

    • 1 tablespoon softened butter or mayonnaise

Instructions:

  • Prepare Bread: Evenly spread the softened butter or mayonnaise on one side of each bread slice. This helps achieve that golden, crispy crust.

  • Assemble Sandwich: Place one slice of bread, buttered-side down, in your air fryer basket. Layer the cheese slices on top, then add the second slice of bread, buttered-side up.

  • Air Fry: Air fry at 370°F (185°C) for 4-5 minutes.

  • Flip & Finish: Carefully flip the sandwich. Continue to air fry for another 4-5 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted and gooey.

  • Serve: Carefully remove the grilled cheese from the air fryer. Slice diagonally and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Butter vs. Mayo: Mayonnaise on the outside creates an exceptionally crispy and golden crust. If you prefer a classic butter flavor, use softened butter.
  • Cheese Choice: Experiment with different cheeses! A blend of cheeses often yields the best flavor and melt.
  • Don't Overlap: Ensure the sandwich fits flat in your air fryer basket without overlapping for even cooking. If making more than one, cook in batches.
  • Adjust Cook Time: Air fryer models vary. Keep an eye on your sandwich, especially on the first try, and adjust cooking time as needed to prevent burning.
  • Add-ins: Feel free to add cooked bacon, ham, or a thin slice of tomato inside for extra flavor.
